Why choose a double treadle spinning wheel?Double treadle spinning wheels allow the spinner to do the same amount of work for half the effort on each leg. Crank angles are designed to allow easy starting so the spinner doesn't have to push the drive wheel by hand to get it going. |
|
How do ratios work? Most spinning wheels have at least two ratios and many have several. The drive band is slipped into grooves in the whorl and drive wheel to give different flyer speeds. A fast speed (ratio) is better for fine yarns that require a lot of twist. A slow speed (ratio) if better for lofty and/or bulky yarns. |
